Modderfontein Bowls Club holds it’s 88th Annual General Meeting

Modderfontein Bowls Club will be holding their 88th Annual General Meeting on Saturday 19th September 2020 to consider business and to elect a new committee.

The club was established in 1932. This was thanks to the enthusiasm of two well-known Modderfontein bowlers, Walter Birt and Horace Leah who played a great part in starting the club. They were also amongst the team who supervised the construction of the main green, which was named Birt-Leah in 1956 to honour the two men.It is said that to provide good drainage, the Birt-Leah green was laid on a foundation of broken beer bottles – one can imagine the devotion of the prospective bowling members shown in emptying the bottles!

Modderfontein Bowls caters to all bowlers needs, whether experienced or beginners. The Club plays competitive bowls in the Ekurhuleni District Leagues and has two Mens and one Ladies Premier League teams and a number of other teams playing in lower leagues.

“Tabs in” social bowls is held on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and on Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings (when inter-club competitive bowls is not being played). Twilight games are played once-a-month on a Friday evenings,  followed by a light supper.
